Defensive Dining – South Padre Island – Introduction

My family spent a short five day vacation exploring South Padre Island this summer. This is a place we have intended to visit before now. Once we became a family with six out of eight being gluten free, including one casein free, one egg allergy, and one nut allergy, traveling as a group became more complicated. I did my usual search for the area and didn’t find any restaurants that sounded like they had a gluten-free menu. We had plans in place and a rented beach house with a full size kitchen. Still, most of my cooking is done for my husband and me, so when we expand to feeding eight people all day long it gets more complicated and we seem to need larger amounts of food. (Did I mention that we also had two dogs along with us?)

We wanted to go out to eat at least once, so soon after we arrived I set out to find a good place. Fortunately for me, Alamo Celiac has a member who lives in this area and she was kind enough to provide me with a list of suggestions. Networking is the name of the game if you are celiac!
