The Peach Tree Inn has been in business since 1972, and the setting is a charming original German limestone residence. They are known for their tea room and sumptuous lunches. Although everything is made fresh here, most menu items, including desserts, are off limits to us. Owner Cynthia Pedregon has written three cookbooks and received rave reviews from Gourmet and other national magazines and newspapers. The gift shop is not to be missed!

I talked to Debbie Tiemann, who helped me find a few things to choose from on the menu. The safest items appear to be:

• Cynthia’s Chicken Salad – A simply delicious chicken salad made with chunks of chicken, Peach Tree herbed mayonnaise*, green onions, celery, and capers, served with fresh fruit for $10.75.
• Tuscan Chicken Salad – Made with roasted chicken, crisp Asian pears, romaine lettuce, pecorinio cheese, and toasted walnuts, and tossed with olive oil, garlic, and lemon dressing for $10.25.

*The herbed mayo ingredients are all gluten free.

Other likely choices:

• Ensalada Veracruz for $9.75
• House salad: small $4.95 or large $6.95
• The Tuna salad made into a salad with greens, rather than a sandwich.

An 8-ounce chicken breast, grilled, may be added to any salad for $4.95. (AB June 2008)
