I am so excited to tell you about a new Thai Restaurant, Thai Hut, I came across in the Northwest area of San Antonio, at Potranco and Ellison to be exact.

Thai Hut opened seven months ago and is owned and operated by the Pleansinchai family. I personally have eaten there on more than ten occasions and each and every time the food has been outstanding and made to my specifications. My family and friends have joined me, and they all agree the food at Thai Hut is simply delicious and reasonable too.

So now I want to share my find with you. On my very first trip I explained that I had allergies and could not eat certain foods. From that moment my sweet server, “Apple” (Sucharda Pleansinchai), took over. She checked the food labels in the kitchen, brought them to me for verification, and made several recommendations. In addition, she followed up with the chefs, her father (Surachai) and her husband (Anupon Poonlon), one of whom is always there. The meal, as I said earlier, was simply delicious.

The Thai Hut Lunch Menu lists twenty specials. These come with soup of the day (contains MSG which is gluten free but avoided by some for other reasons), egg roll (made with a wheat wrap so not gluten free), rice (choose the steamed for no msg), and iced tea all for $5.99. My husband eats my soup, and they bring out my egg roll on a separate plate so there is no cross contact with my food and I can give it to a non-gluten-free diner (usually my husband). And the portions are generous. This is a good deal, especially in these economic times. These same items and many other gluten-free choices are on the Dinner Menu. The prices are a little higher, and you do not get the drink, soup, and egg roll without extra charge. Ask your server for help if you are unsure about anything.

Thai Hut seats 103 people and serves beer and wine. Currently the curry dishes are made with Knorr soup base which contains MSG, but I was told they will make a MSG-free version if given prior notice (Phone: 210-647-1035 or 210-647-1022.) They serve three kinds of curry, and my husband has tried them all. He had a hard time choosing a favorite but finally settled on the Panang Curry.

The only noodle we cannot have is the Lo Mein. Most dishes use rice and glass or bean noodles and all dishes have a choice of chicken, shrimp, beef, or pork. You can also choose mild, medium, or hot spice strength. I have not eaten a dessert, as I never have room, but there are gluten-free choices.

So please join us at Thai Hut on Satuday, 20 March, at 12:30 pm for lunch or 6:30 pm for supper. Don’t forget to make your reservation!
